Chris Rusby is the principal and managing attorney of Rusby Law. He was born in Reno, Nevada, and was raised on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Chris graduated from Sonoma State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2005. Thereafter he attended McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific, where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 2008. While at McGeorge, Chris received a Witkin Award for Appellate and International Advocacy, and an Award for the Best Appellate Brief. Upon graduation, he was also named a member of the Traynor Honor Society.
After graduation, Chris worked as an associate attorney with an insurance defense law firm in Reno, Nevada from 2009 until 2014. While there, Chris worked primarily with sophisticated insurance and corporate clients which has taught him to be efficient and responsive in the litigation process, while recognizing the tremendous economic and emotional costs associated with resolution of disputes through trial. Chris has considerable litigation and trial experience. He has been the lead counsel in several jury trials. He was the lead trial counsel for a large gaming corporation on all their Northern Nevada personal injury cases between January 2013 and August 2014. Chris has worked on hundreds of different cases or client matters. He has taken or defended hundreds of depositions. He has also successfully briefed and argued several appeals in the Nevada Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has testified in front of the Nevada Legislature. He has experience litigating in many different forums, throughout Nevada and California, including federal courts, state courts, small claims and justice courts.
Chris has a wide range of experience handling legal matters, including civil litigation, appellate law, personal injury, insurance, public entities, real estate, estate planning, probate, and business and corporate law. Chris has a passion for trial work and enjoys being in the courtroom; however, he also has considerable experience and enjoys working with businesses and clients in their everyday legal needs. He has helped many business with their initial formation, as well as their ongoing contractual and other legal needs. He currently serves as general counsel for many local Northern Nevada businesses. He also has considerable experience and enjoys working with clients in setting up trusts, drafting wills, and other estate planning needs. Most importantly, Chris strives to establish long lasting relationships with his clients built on trust and candid advice.
In his personal life, Chris is an avid outdoorsman. He spends most of his time with his family camping, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors.
